DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
Since the inception of the college in 1992, the Department of History has been a stalwart in the academic landscape, weaving narratives of the past into the fabric of education. Despite its modest size, comprising two dedicated faculty members, the department’s mission transcends mere instruction, aiming to ignite a fervent passion for historical inquiry among its students. At the heart of the department’s ethos lies the belief in the transformative power of historical knowledge. By delving into the annals of the past, students are not only equipped with a deeper understanding of the world as it exists today but also empowered to envision and shape the future. This holistic approach underscores the department’s commitment to nurturing intellectually curious individuals who are not content with passive observation but seek to actively engage with the world around them. The study of history is not confined to the memorization of dates and events; rather, it serves as a gateway to unlocking the complexities of human experience. Through critical analysis and interpretation, students are encouraged to interrogate the underlying causes and consequences of historical phenomena, thereby gaining insights that are not only academically enriching but also personally transformative. This process of inquiry fosters a sense of empathy and perspective-taking, essential qualities for navigating the complexities of the contemporary world.
Moreover, the department recognizes the interconnectedness of past, present, and future. By tracing the trajectories of societies and civilizations across time, students are encouraged to identify patterns, discern continuity amidst change, and envision potential pathways forward. This forward-looking approach instills in students a sense of agency and responsibility, compelling them to actively participate in shaping a future that is informed by a nuanced understanding of the past.Beyond the confines of academia, the department seeks to cultivate a life of wider awareness among its students. History is not merely a subject to be studied within the confines of the classroom but a lens through which to view the world in all its complexity. Whether it be through community engagement initiatives, interdisciplinary collaborations, or experiential learning opportunities, students are encouraged to apply their historical knowledge to real-world contexts, thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice. In essence, the Department of History serves as a beacon of intellectual curiosity and social consciousness within the college. Its modest size belies its profound impact, as it endeavors to instill in students a lifelong passion for learning, a deeper understanding of the world around them, and a sense of purposeful engagement with the past, present, and future. Through its endeavors, the department continues to shape minds, inspire hearts, and enrich lives.
